“WHEN MY WORK IS COMPLETE,
I INVITE YOU TO BRING YOUR OWN
INTERPRETATION AND IMAGINATION.
WHAT DO YOU SEE? WHAT DO YOU FEEL?”

El Løvaas is a Norwegian abstract artist based in San Diego. With the beginning of each new piece, Løvaas strives to keep her paintings open to all possibilities.

“I lean in and welcome whatever happens,” she shares. “Layer upon layer, I’m crafting stories without words. Chance and risk are a big part of my process. I work with mixed media, acrylic, oil, ink, pigment, pastels, fibers, paper and crushed gemstones. I add, emphasize, minimize and play.” El also incorporates personal features for custom pieces. “The way in which the collector is involved varies, some leave it all up to me, and others have strong visions.” “I have embedded a grandfather’s braille paper, gemstones for heightened energetics and healing properties, snakeskin, rain – the creativity is endless. The wishes and visions from collectors keep me inspired and on my toes.” “I invite all creative ideas.” El Løvaas finds great joy in evoking emotion, boundless thought, and connection through her art.

A NOTE FROM EL LØVAAS

“Most of my work is intuitive painting. When I start a new piece, the first thing I do is sage my studio, materials and myself. Then, I write a positive message on the substrate. Even though it will be covered by mixed media, the message will always be in the space. My intuition guides me through the process as I collaborate with pastels, charcoal, graphite, paints, wax and textures. I allow myself to feel free and get lost in the moment. I get into a meditative flow. I often incorporate crushed gem stones with healing properties into my work. To me, it is all about energy and balance. My work is a free flowing expression of whatever I feel in that moment. I let it dry and repeat… layer upon layer. The accidents and the unpredictability of how the mediums will interact, are often times the most beautiful. I often spend months, before completion. When I create, I get out of my head and into my heart.”
